The Philadelphia Phillies’ offense has been among the weakest in Major League Baseball during the 2026 season. Their team OPS of .687 ranks third from the bottom, and the poor performance isn’t the fault of Bryce Harper, Kyle Schwarber, or Brandon Marsh.
Looking across the roster, it’s clear that the struggles of the right-handed hitters are dragging the offense down. More specifically, Trea Turner’s difficulties are becoming a major concern.
As Destiny Lugardo of Phillies Nation points out, Turner’s .607 OPS in 2026 is even worse than the low point of his “standing ovation” season, when his OPS dropped to .642. That summer, fans famously gave him a standing ovation during his struggles, which seemed to turn his season around.

Lugardo notes, “The lowest his OPS dipped to in the standing ovation season was .642 on June 4. It’s at .607 right now.”
During that earlier rough stretch, Phillies fans took it upon themselves to support Turner with a standing ovation despite his poor play. Somehow, it worked he turned things around and has been a much better player for the team ever since.
In his first season with the Phillies, he finished with a respectable .778 OPS. He followed that with an .807 OPS in 2024 and an .812 OPS in 2025.

Unfortunately, things have worsened dramatically this year. His .607 OPS is very poor, and his 65 OPS+ is nearly half of his 121 OPS+ from the previous season.
Turner has been a huge disappointment in 2026 and is a key reason the team’s offense has been so lackluster. While another standing ovation might not work this time, if there were ever a moment for Phillies fans to test that magic again, it would be now given how much Turner’s struggles are holding the offense back.
