On Monday, the Philadelphia Phillies enjoyed a day off following a home series against the Colorado Rockies, in which they won two of three games.
Their next matchup is Tuesday night, when they’ll face the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park.
Phillies Release 5-Year MLB Player

Before heading to Boston, the Phillies released Oscar Mercado from their organization. He was on a Minor League contract and playing at the Triple-A level.
In 24 games with the Lehigh Valley IronPigs, Mercado batted .141, recording ten hits, one home run, six RBIs, nine runs, and three stolen bases.
Mercado last appeared in an MLB game during the 2023 season.
Mercado’s MLB Background

Originally selected in the second round of the 2013 MLB Draft, Mercado began his major league career with the Cleveland Guardians, where he spent his first three and a half seasons. He later had stints with the Phillies and the St. Louis Cardinals.
Over 298 career games across five seasons, the 31-year-old has a .237 batting average, along with 211 hits, 26 home runs, 100 RBIs, 123 runs, and 29 stolen bases.
Katie Woo of The Athletic wrote during a game on May 21, 2023: “The Oscar Mercado game. With two outs and the bases full, Mercado connects for his third hit of the day and singles in two more runs. That’s five RBI for Mercado on the day, matching a career-high.”
Mercado could be a solid, low-risk addition for other teams on a Minor League deal.
Phillies Right Now

Entering their series against the Red Sox, the Phillies sit second in the National League East with a 19–22 record over 41 games. They’ve gone 7–3 in their last ten contests but are 7–10 in 17 road games.
Following three games with the Red Sox, the Phillies will head to Pittsburgh for a series against the Pirates starting Friday night.
