Phillies Bring In Former First-Round Pick

Salisbury reported: “Phillies have signed OF Dylan Carlson to a minor league contract. He will go to Lehigh Valley.” Carlson had appeared in three games for the Cubs this season.
Reactions on Social Media

Fans and analysts weighed in online:
-
@FuturePhils: “Not a bad little minors deal. Carlson is a switch hitter who has been much better against lefties. Hasn’t had much success since 2024 but offers a profile that could fit the Phillies’ roster.”
-
Cole Weintraub: “Former top prospect with the Cardinals. .266/.343/.437 with 53 XBH in 2021. .640 big league OPS since then with STL, TB, BAL, and CHC. Switch bat.”
-
Cory Nidoh: “The #Phillies add Dylan Carlson to the mix in Lehigh Valley. Like starting pitching, outfield depth is also very thin. Carlson has spent parts of seven MLB seasons hitting .233 with a .682 OPS in 570 games.”
Background on Carlson

Carlson was selected in the first round of the 2016 MLB Draft. He has played for the St. Louis Cardinals, Tampa Bay Rays, Baltimore Orioles, and Chicago Cubs. Across seven seasons and 570 games, he owns a .233 average with 409 hits, 43 home runs, 195 RBIs, 210 runs scored, and 16 stolen bases.
Phillies’ Current Standing

Through 41 games, the Phillies hold a 19–22 record, placing them second in the National League East. They’ve gone 7–3 over their last ten games but are 7–10 in 17 road contests. Following the three-game set in Boston, the Phillies will head to Pittsburgh to face the Pirates on Friday.
