Tyler Herro trade package is appealing without surprising name for the Pistons

The Detroit Pistons have been linked to many potential trade targets, including Tyler Herro. Most scenarios for landing a second star require them to trade a mix of Isaiah Stewart, Ron Holland, Duncan Robinson, and/or Caris LeVert, plus draft picks. However, a recent Bleacher Report proposal lets Detroit acquire Herro without losing Holland.

In that deal, the Pistons would part with fan favorite Isaiah Stewart, expiring contract Caris LeVert, an unprotected 2027 first-round pick, and a 2027 second-rounder. This package is much lighter than what Detroit has typically offered for other scorers, so the Pistons would have to seriously consider it especially since they get to keep Holland, a 20-year-old with considerable upside they want to develop. The trade also doesn’t involve their 2026 pick, which could be higher than next year’s, allowing Detroit to add young talent from a deep draft.

While moving Stewart would end the “Beef Stew” era, it’s a deal worth considering. A healthy Herro could elevate the Pistons to the next level. He’s a proven 20+ PPG scorer with high-level three-point shooting, ball-handling as a secondary option, and lethal catch-and-shoot ability skills that would thrive alongside Cade Cunningham. He fits Detroit’s offensive needs, and the team’s defense is strong enough to cover for him. Herro has also played in the Finals, so playoff exposure isn’t an issue.

Meanwhile, Isaiah Stewart hasn’t contributed much in the last two postseasons first due to injury, and the second likely also injury-related, though unspoken. Whether hurt or not, Stewart was outperformed by Paul Reed, and with Jalen Duren due for a big raise, Detroit can only invest so much at center. Adding Herro would also push Duncan Robinson to the bench, strengthening a weak spot and improving overall offensive depth.

Pistons weigh Tyler Herro trade amid fit and health concerns

Herro’s red flags are his defense and injury history he played only 33 games this season. But if Detroit gets the All-Star version from the prior year, he fits exactly what they need as a second scorer. Given that the Pistons won’t find much better value for this trade package, Bleacher Report has presented an intriguing possibility.
