Pistons acquire Stanford guard Ebuka Okorie, trade pick No. 21 to Grizzlies

(NEW YORK (WXYZ) — According to a report from ESPN’s Shams Charania, the Detroit Pistons have secured the draft rights to Stanford guard Ebuka Okorie, who was originally chosen 17th overall by the Memphis Grizzlies. In exchange for Okorie, the Pistons are said to have sent over the 21st pick along with three second-round selections.

Okorie paced the Cardinal in scoring with 23.2 points per contest, to go along with 3.6 rebounds, 3.6 assists, and 1.6 steals per outing, while connecting on 46.5% of his field goals, 35.4% from three-point range, and 83.2% at the foul line. The 6-foot-1 guard collected a number of honors this past season:

Detroit obtained this selection through a pick swap with the Minnesota Timberwolves, having sat out the first round entirely in 2025. This marks the second first-round choice made by general manager Trajan Langdon during his tenure with the Pistons, following last year’s selection of forward Ron Holland out of the NBA G League Ignite.

The Pistons enter the upcoming campaign after finishing the 2025-26 regular season with a 60-22 record, securing the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference their best regular-season performance since 2005-06. However, their playoff run ended in disappointment: after edging past the No. 8 seed Orlando Magic in a seven-game first-round series, Detroit fell to the Cleveland Cavaliers in seven games during the Eastern Conference Semifinals. That victory over Orlando represented the franchise’s first playoff series win since 2008.
