The Detroit Pistons’ NBA Summer League roster doesn’t contain many unexpected names, and the organization is perfectly content with that reality. First-round selection Ebuka Okorie, a guard from Stanford known for his quick-strike scoring ability, will serve as the primary attraction. The 17th overall pick possesses the kind of skill set that thrives in this setting he’s accustomed to controlling the offense, manufacturing his own looks, and attacking the basket with regularity, which are exactly the traits that tend to flourish in Las Vegas.
Joining him is Virginia’s Ugonna Onyenso, Detroit’s second-round choice and the reigning leader in blocked shots across college basketball. His ability to patrol the paint and anchor the defense near the basket should provide some entertaining moments for supporters keeping tabs on the action.
Also appearing on the roster is last year’s second-round selection, Chaz Lanier from Tennessee. The knockdown outside shooter saw limited opportunities during his first professional season, so the Summer League offers a welcome chance to shake off the rust and evaluate his production when given an increased offensive role.
Isaac Jones, a two-way player who arrived via trade with Sacramento last season, will represent Detroit, along with several members of the Motor City Cruise, the Pistons’ G League affiliate. Dawson Garcia and Brice Williams are both slated to participate, while Basheer Jihad, who previously suited up for the College Park Skyhawks in Atlanta’s developmental system, will also take the floor for Detroit in Vegas. Latavious Mitchell, whose recent experience came overseas in Ireland, rounds out that contingent.
The remainder of the group features collegiate talent hoping to make a strong impression and potentially earn two-way contracts or professional opportunities abroad. Among those names are Roddy Gayle Jr. out of Michigan and Corey Stephenson from Florida International.
