The Detroit Pistons are bringing back veteran wing Javonte Green on a one-year contract, according to a report from ESPN’s Shams Charania . The deal is worth $3.95 million, a slight raise from the non-guaranteed contract he played on last season .
Green, who turns 33 on July 23, was the only Piston to appear in all 82 regular-season games during the 2025-26 campaign . The athletic wing averaged 6.9 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 1.2 steals in 17.6 minutes per game while shooting a career-best 38.1% from three-point range .
His durability and defensive mindset made him a trusted piece off the bench for head coach J.B. Bickerstaff. He appeared in 11 of the team’s 14 playoff games during their run to the Eastern Conference Semifinals, where they ultimately fell to the Cleveland Cavaliers in seven games .

The Green reunion is just one piece of an aggressive summer for Pistons president of basketball operations Trajan Langdon. The team has already:
-
Traded Isaiah Stewart to the Memphis Grizzlies in a deal that recouped draft capital
-
Agreed to acquire sharpshooting guard Isaiah Joe from the Oklahoma City Thunder
-
Signed forward John Collins to a three-year, $51 million deal to assume the starting power forward role
-
Re-signed wing Kevin Huerter to return to the rotation
-
Drafted Stanford guard Ebuka Okorie after trading up to No. 17 overall
The team has also made it clear they will not waive veteran sharpshooter Duncan Robinson, preserving one of the league’s most reliable perimeter threats .
The biggest outstanding item for Detroit remains the future of All-Star center Jalen Duren, who is a restricted free agent. Reports indicate the Pistons are not expected to offer Duren a max contract after he struggled in the playoffs, leading to a standoff in negotiations .

The Los Angeles Lakers and Sacramento Kings have both expressed strong interest, with the Lakers reportedly viewing Duren as a “maximum-salary level player” . The Pistons have the right to match any offer sheet Duren signs and are expected to do so, though speculation about a potential sign-and-trade continues to swirl .
With Green’s return, the Pistons now have more than 15 players on their standard roster, indicating that further moves are likely in the coming days . The team finished 60-22 last season, the third-best record in franchise history and their best since 2005-06, and is looking to build on that success while continuing to add shooting and ball-handling around their core of Cade Cunningham, Duren, and Ausar Thompson .
