Max Muncy powered a go-ahead two-run shot in the sixth inning, and Tommy Edman widened the Dodgers’ margin with a bases-clearing triple during the eighth, propelling Los Angeles to a 9-5 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies on Wednesday night.
Muncy’s blast off Aaron Nola (3-8) marked his 229th career homer in a Dodgers uniform, elevating him to fifth place on the franchise’s all-time list. His other five big-league home runs came during his tenure with the Athletics.
Alec Bohm answered with a two-run homer in the first frame against Eric Lauer (5-5), who finished his outing after 5 1/3 innings while surrendering three runs. Lauer closed his night by fanning Bryce Harper for the third time.
Edman collected three hits on the evening. Freddie Freeman contributed a pair of doubles alongside a single, while catcher Dalton Rushing batting ninth went deep in the third and added a two-run double in the fifth.
Outfielder Bryan De La Cruz, making his first major-league appearance this season after being recalled from Triple-A Lehigh Valley by the Phillies, led off the fifth with a solo homer that knotted the score at 3-3.
Shohei Ohtani, serving as the designated hitter, finished 0-for-3 with an intentional walk. The Dodgers’ two-way player, sidelined from pitching due to left knee soreness, threw a bullpen session prior to the game.
